i'm not Catholic, but Lutherans do it too. i'm not really a "practicing" Lutheran anymore, but i still like to do it for the symbolism & it just has a personal meaning to me.
i'm giving up ice cream. it will be very hard, but i think i can do it!
what about you ladies?
Re: What are you giving up for Lent (if anything)?
Same as you.
Icecream- my true 'treat' -- i gave it up last year too- even while i was pregnant. that was hard.
Nothing, because I'm an atheist now.
Back when I was Catholic, I often gave up all desserts except 1. I gave myself the one so that I wouldn't cheat. One year that 1 was pudding, 1 year it was applesauce.
Once I tried to give up the internet, but that failed miserably.

I am not Catholic but I thought I would give up something:
I am going to give up chocolate (I will have to be really strong).
Junk food. Actually, I'm going to try to abstain from any "superfluous" food- anything beyond what's necessary for me to survive. I'm a bad Catholic, but I do practice.
I also hope to lose 5 pounds.
I think I'm giving up Chocolate too. God help me!!
I'm giving up booze. Coincides with the pregnancy nicely...
I am Catholic and doing a three pronged approach. I suppose I feel guilty for not giving up anything last year during pregnancy.
I'm giving up junk food (desserts, soda, candy, sweets) except for my birthday which falls during Lent.
I'm devoting more time to Bible study, in the hour at night that I usually waste watching T.V.
DH and I are trying to curb our swear word usage to a minimum.
I am giving up sex
