2nd Trimester

Pain from side sleeping, anyone?

The past few nights I've been getting this pain on my left side right under my bottom rib.  Like a cramp or sideache after laying on that side for awhile.  So I'll switch to my right side and it still cramps up.  It lasts all through the night regardless of which side I'm sleeping on.  Last night I tried putting a pillow under it, using my Snoogle, not using my Snoogle.  Nothing seemed to make the cramping/pain stop except turning on my back.  As soon as I'd lay on my back it'd stop.  Not sure if it's just growing, or things getting squished in there, or just trapped gas.  Anyone else have this?  I plan on mentioning it to my doctor when I see her next week, just curious...

  • I'm feeling sore on my hips?both sides, since I flip. I'm a few weeks behind you and don't have any rib pain. I never slept on my back or stomach (only sides) so it's weird having it hurt now.

  • Yes! I've always been a stomach sleeper and have a really hard time getting comfy on my side. I wake up with hip cramps on my side all the time. I end up smashing poor DH by laying on himTongue Tied
  • I have the exact same issue with a lovely bit of sciatica thrown in. Last night was the first night in weeks that I had a good sleep with no pain.

I find that I end up sore on one or both sides a lot. I'm guessing that with the ute moving higher up and the stretching of the ligaments, it's just like a brutal work out that you only notice when you put pressure on the one side. The pain seems to subside when I move to my back.

My doctor said that the next few weeks would be full of pressure/pain etc from things stretching and moving to allow for the expanding ute.?

  • I don't have pain necessarily in my ribs... mine is mostly in my legs, arms, neck, hips and my face has that fallen asleep feeling.  If sleeping on your back helps, then do it.  Just make sure you are propped up and not completely flat. Do what you feel is comfortable.
  • I do get that but only when I lie on my left side.  I feel like I'm squishing her or she is "standing" on whatever organ is on the left.  Usually if I unbend my legs it gets better, but of course I can't sleep like that for long.  If I am on my right side, it's fine....but my most comfortable position continues to be my back...I just lie propped up.

  • My hips get sore in the night. One thing that helps is to put a pillow between your legs to keep everything in alignment. That might help your rib pain, too.

  • Thanks for all the tips ladies!  Maybe I'll get a good nights sleep tonight Smile
  • I haven't had the rib pain so I don't have much advice on that.  I am not used to sleeping on my side either (I switch sides during the night) but the biggest issue I am having is that my ears hurt!! I know that sounds weird, but its like they fall asleep because all the weight from my head is on them.  Weird, I know, but it seriously hurts!!
