So, let's talk about do-it-yourself gender selection

I've done a little research online but haven't ready any books on the topic. I know there's a lot of debate on whether anything really sways the odds, but from what I gather, most suggestions have to do with the ph-level of your hoo-ha (acidic = girl, alkaline = boy) and the timing of sex (3 - 6 days before o = girl, 0 - 3 days before o = boy). Does that about cover it?

I casually asked my obgyn about this at my last appt and tried not to sound like a dork, and he laughed it off and said no way.

Bre, actually... no. Per my very reliable google search on the topic, citrus fruits actually result in more alkaline ph levels. Of course, that's if you eat them. I don't what would happen if you douche with it.

B, apparently, you can buy strips. But I have no idea how, exactly, you'd perform the test. Ick.

Well...according to my brother...(who has no children) if you want to make a boy you have to do it doggy style:O)

His reasoning for this...male sperm are naturally less aggressive than female sperm...so by doing it doggy style...you're obviously giving the male sperm a head start! lol...

I should totally save this for FFFC but I'll just put the flame retardant suit on and take my chances.  When we were getting ready to TTC, I did a little bit of looking into this.  Though I would have been happy with either, I thought I wanted a girl first.  I decided we would try timing/position for one month and if that didn't work, we would just do whatever.  I wasn't charting or anything and just put ovulation date in the middle of my cycle.  We only had sex before the guessed ovulation date.  We ended up with a girl.  Of course, we had something like a 49% chance going in of it being a girl so.......

not to butt in, but male sperm tend to swim faster and live a shorter lifespan than female sperm.

Take that information, and do with it what you will, you will have a 50% chance at your desired outcome. . .

i remember a link to some other message board once about all these women who had gender dissapointment and they were all talking all these crazy ways to have girls.  Something about citrus up there really, egg whites...sex a certain number of days before ovulation etc etc.  It was bizarro.

To try for a girl, it is recommended to have sex at least 2 days before ovulation.  It's because the girls stick around longer.  The boys are faster, so if you have sex close to ovulation, you have more of a chance of having a boy.  Of course, for all we know, your chance might only go up a few percentage points for either one. 

After reading the posts on the multiples board about those poor little girls, I am reminded once again why I feel like having a healthy baby is so much higher on the priority list than the gender of my baby.

It is called the Shettles method.  I thought it had more to do with the hardiness/speed of the male vs. female sperm, more so than how acidic the vagina is.  My OB said that it really isn't very true though.

I tried the Shettles Method, I figured why not try.  We did get the girl we were trying for, but who knows if it was what was meant to be?

I know, I was being silly, 

I have an IVF baby and interestingly there is a slight increase of boys with certain types of IVF.

our ob told us that if we wanted a boy next time then to get the ovulation kits, have sex (all day) on the day it says "yes youre Oing" and then not again that cycle. if you get preg. it will be a boy LOL i mean, ideally.
