1st Trimester

Test results not what I was told

So I threw out my back yesterday and needed to leave work early today because it hurts so much.  I spoke with the nurse at my OB office and she told me my NT scan came back with good results so I figure we're in the clear.

I get home and there's a message from my OB herself asking me to call her.  Apparently I have a 1 in 8 chance of my child having Downs Syndrome and she wants to know if I want to do the CV test or amnio or nothing.  I'm freaked out now and start bawling.

She's super sweet, and tells me to come in and see her, she's going to check the baby's heartbeat to make sure everythings okay.  My back pain is as bad as it was when I had my m/c.  She spent 10 minutes with me and shared some of her personal experience with amnios and was very sympathetic.  DH and I now need to talk tonight and decide which test we want to do so I can call her tomorrow and let her know what to book.

Re: Test results not what I was told

  • I hope everything works out ok for you.  It's nice to hear you have a kind OB willing to sit and explain all of your options with you.

GL!  I'm sending good vibes your way.

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this! Try to stay positive, and remember that the odds are still in favor of your baby being completely healthy! HTH!
  • So sorry you have to go through that.  I hope that everything turns out well for you and that you are able to come to a decision that you are comfortable with regarding more testing.  ::hugs::
  • i hate it when they tell you one thing, and then another. good luck with you decision!!!
  • Sorry you are going through that!  I would absolutely talk to your OB and explain what you were told by the nurse.  They need to get that straightened out and make sure your results were not mixed up with someone elses or the nurse needs some re-training.

Either way, I hope everything works out for you.

  • I'm sorry, that is a stress. I'm sure you'll feel better once you've discussed this with your husband, and had some time to "digest" the news and consider testing options. Sending positive energy.
