Help.. washing poop off clothes

Does anyone have any tips for getting baby poop off of their clothing? Sometimes it leakes through the diaper and then I might as well throw away the clothes instead of washing it, since I'm not able to get the yellow stains off... I soak in water (I don't let it dry out) and spray Shout stain remover on, but still no luck. Any advice?

  • I try to throw it in the washing machine as quickly as possible and throw some extra detergent right on the poop stains.  That has really helped the past couple times.  I also always have a plain onesie on him so that takes the most of it and the cute outfit only ends up with a little if any at all.

  • If you use a stain remover like Shout (they have some for babies) it'll come right out!!

  • i spray them off in the shower and use vanish for whites. i dont know if it makes a difference but i also use cold water in the machine for everything. i have shout spray if i think i will not have time to wash then that day. :)
  • And all of the stuff comes off without leaving stains? I'm thinking maybe it's my washer - it's not the newest. I seem to be doing the same things you guys are.

  • Greased Lightening spray and then soak it in water w/ the laundry detergent.  Comes out clean!  Or I just spray it w/ Shout Spray n Wash and let it sit for at least an hour; that works as well. After both methods I still wash in the washer.  GL!
  • after you rinse them, you can lay them out in the sun while the clothing is still wet. i've done this a few times and the stains are barely visible.
  • We get poop on clothes every day, she is an explosive pooper! I just soak in cold water and then wash the stuff by hand in the sink and it usually all comes off. If there is still any left, I dry it in the sun and the sun bleaches it out.

  • Thanks so much everyone for advice! I'll try the Grease Lightening spray and the sun ideas next time (hopefully it'll be sunny :))

  • I had some serious poop stains on a lot of things and used oxyclean--I let it all sit out for about an hour before washing and every bit of it came out.

  • I just put in the washer immediately w/ no stain treatment and have no problem getting the stains out. If I wasn't able to wash right away or scrounge up enough other stuff to go in, I would pre-treat the stain and put in ASAP.
  • i keep stain remover gel next to the diaper changing table and put it on right away - i've used the mrs meyers baby line - and it comes right out in the wash a few days later even...
  • Oxy Clean!  Pour it directly on the stain and wash.  If the stain is still there you can try it again.
