I dislike the spelling intensely. It is soooo 70sl the ryn ending. And yet Catherine and Katharine (and also Katherine) are all beautiful. Why mess with them?
?So if you ask me about Kathryn I say uggh. If you ask me about Catherine or Katherine/Katharine I think LOVELY.
Don't really mind about the mn, none of those are my style but I have a school friend who is Kathryn Louise so I tend to think of that as even more a 70s connotation.
I might go for Katherine Louisa though which has a more girly lacy classic feel.?
Love it. We've talked about it as a first or middle name for each of the girls. They have more "interesting" (less common first names) but I still would love to use it as a middle name if we have #3.
Now that I look at in type perhaps I like Katherine more than Kathryn. I just simply picked the spelling that was familiar to me. I had a Kathryn in school growing up.
Katherine Louise. Katherine Diane.

Love it. We had planned on naming our daughter that until about a week before she was born (would have spelled Catherine). I love the name, but we have a pretty unusual last name and I wanted something that would be less likely to be misspelled.
I obviously like the name and the spelling--that's what we named our DD. We went with that spelling because it is the more Irish spelling and DH is 100% Irish. It's not truly an Irish name--it's actually English, (Kathleen is a "real" Irish name) but it is considered "passable" Irish if it is spelled that way.
We also used the less popular spelling for my DD's middle name. It is McKinlay but pronounced McKinley. That is also the true Scottish spelling of that name and was the way my grandma spelled her maiden name. We chose our spelling because it meant something to us as far as the herritage behind the names.
We chose Kathryn because we loved that it was a name that could grow with our DD. Right now, she is clearly a Katy--that really fits her personality. When she gets a bit older, she may decide that she wants to be called Kate instead. Then, when she is the CEO of a fortune 500 company, Kathryn will be an elegant name to put on her business card!
Kathryn itself is just OK but I love the nickname Kate for it. I definitely wouldn't do Erin as a middle name (and I love Erin, it's one of my DD's names). Diane is OK, but Louise works best.

This is all really interesting to me. My mom was named Kathryn (born in 1950). Her birth parents are Irish and I am now going to have to ask her if she knows if they named her or if my grandparents did. Their last name was an MacXXXXX name as well.

love the name but prefer Catherine/Katherine. my dd is Catherine :-)
Kathryn Louise is my favorite of the middle names - adorable!
Love it, but I prefer Catherine or Katherine. I like it with Louise or Diane, but not Erin.

I do love Kathryn Louise.
DH REALLY wants a boy next, but whenever i talk about girls names I am so eager for a girl I can hardly stand it!

Since I used Katherine, I am going to say that I like it.
She might have to spell it since it's a little bit of a different spelling. I obviously prefer the other spelling.
