Is it mandatory to have your car seat on an airplane? I'm traveling w/ my 2 yr old and b/c he's not lapped I'm not sure what the rules are. Please advise. TIA Kel
No. And if you do want to have your carseat on an airplane you need to make sure its approved by the FAA (should say on the box or manual). I've never used one on the plane with DS.
No, it is not mandatory for any child of any age. For babies you can hold them (and usually must if there's no spare seat and you're not paying for 1). For older kids over 2 who need their own seat htye can just use the lapbelt.
?Obviously the lapbelt isn't very safe for a toddler. I would recommend the CARES device from www.kidsflysafe.com - it is FAA approved for takeoff and landing and it is very light and easy to install.
We've always just let our daughter sit in the regular seat buckled up. It's such a pain to lug the carseat around, especially when traveling by yourself.
