So does this hurt??? I am assuming you are still contracting, etc so it might be painful but wasn't sure. Also if you have an epi (which I am) do you have to push to get this thing out or does it just kinda come out?
With my first DD the OB went in an got it (I was bleeding more than I should so she had to), but with my second DD it just came out by itself. My epi didn't work, so I felt the entire birth of my daugheter, but I can honestly say I didn't feel a thing when the placenta came out -- either time.
I didn't need to push it out either time but sometimes you need to give a small push. You are still contracting. With dd I had an epidural though and didn't feel those contractions. With ds I was unmedicated and those contractions hurt! I wasn't expecting them too. You will have contractions for a few days after, esp. if you breastfeed (you will get them while nursing) They weren't bad with my first but were pretty painful with my second.
Oh my, good question- I don't remember!!! Once DD was out she was all I could see, hear or feel. I had the epi and the ONLY thing that hurt in L&D was the contractions before the epi, and the actual placement of the epi. So I'm going to go with- no.

I didn't have an epidural and can say it didn't hurt and just came out on its own. I barely knew it happened at that point

I went natural and barely even noticed it because I was trying to see my baby across the room! After pushing a baby out, the placenta is nothing. Seriously, you probably won't even notice it! ?The doctor showed it to us once it was out, it was really neat.

I don't think it hurts... but even if it did, you'd be so distracted by your baby that I doubt you'd notice.
