22 months or so - did DC start sleeping less?

DC has been sleeping a lot less for the last 3 weeks or so - he was sleeping 7:30-7:30 at night with a 2 hour nap. Now he is suddenly doing 7:30 PM -6:00 AM with only an hour nap.  He is crabby!  I know he needs more sleep than this... (and I need more sleep)

He tends to fall asleep right away when we put him down, but would keeping him up later help? (I know when he was younger that did NOT work) I have been leaving him in his room for the full two hours of his nap even after he wakes, but that isn't doing much. He was exhausted before his nap today, fell asleep almost instantly, and is now up a little more than an hour later naming everything in his crib.

Please tell me this is a phase and he will soon be speaking in full sentences or something. He isn't teething (he isn't upset when he wakes, he is just UP).

Re: 22 months or so - did DC start sleeping less?

  • Hey :)  K is sleeping a little less.  She's stretched her bedtime to 7:30 from 7, and wakes up at 6:30 rather than 7:30.  Her naps have gone from 2.5-3 hours to 1.5-2 hours.

Good times at our house...Kate is vomiting like the Exorcist.  I've changed her outfit three times, my outfit twice, mopped my kitchen, changed her crib sheets three times, scrubbed the rug in her room twice, and had to clean my stair runner as she puked on the way upstairs.  Oh, and my MIL is here, and J is in NYC until tomorrow night.  Woo hoo.

  • My DD also is sleeping less. I've tried putting her to bed later but it doesn't seem to help. I know she's tired because she's cranky by the end of the day. Unlike your DS, it always takes her a long time to go to sleep, even when she's had no nap and is exhausted.

I also leave her in her room the full nap time, even if she's not sleeping. I figure quiet - or not-so-quiet - play time is better than nothing.

No advice, sorry, but you're not alone!

  • YES!

Reagan used to sleep 12 hours at night and a 2-3 hour nap.  She is now sleeping 9 hours at night, and doesn't take a nap everyday.  Never on the weekends, and only sometimes during the week.

    It's killing me right now!

  • Wellfleet - I just saw that on Facebook!  Poor Kate. That bug is knocking down kids all over here - luckily those I know who have had it only had it for 24 hours or less....I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Henry had My Gym and was at Magic Beans today - hopefully I Purelled him down enough after all those germs!

  • I wish I knew.  It's almost 3pm, and DD is still wide awake.  I had to put her in front of Diego so I could make a phone call.  She won't sleep for more than 10 hours at night.  It doesn't seem to matter when she goes to sleep; 10 hours is the max.  She needs her 2 hour naps, and yet she keeps refusing to nap.  She has always been like this.  She hasn't slept more than 10 hours at night since she was born.
