Keenland & BF/pumping

So we're going to Keenland on a bus in April.  For those of you who have been to Keenland on a bus, it's an all-day event.  I'm wondering what to do about pumping bc I CANNOT go all day without relieving my poor boobs.  I can take my big pump and am fine with dumping.  I guess I'd sit on the back of the bus with my bebe au lait cover.

Does anyone know if you can leave Keenland and go back in (like get a hand stamp or something)?  But our bus may be locked - I just don't want to lug my big pump with me all day.  Or should I buy a cheapO hand pump??  Any thoughts? TIA!

Re: Keenland & BF/pumping

  • I've never been to Keenland or on a bus trip, but I'd buy a hand-pump (I have the Medela Harmony, it works great and cost like $30). I'd do a big full double pump before you left for the day and then just use the hand pump as needed throughout the day (I've done this in the bathroom at Reds games and things like that). You'll have to do one side at a time which is kind of a pain, but if you just do enough to help relieve your engorgement it shouldn't take that long. I wouldn't do this for days in a row or anything but if it's just that one day I don't think it will hurt your supply.

  • I spent 4 days in Vegas with my pump.  I was dreading finding places to pump but now I feel like I can pump anywhere.  :)  I brought my regular pump (Lansinoh double electric) in a tote bag and just pumped in the restroom where ever I was (casinos, restaurants, the airport).  Mine can run on batteries (not sure if they are all like that) so I didn't need to find a plug.  It wasn't bad and I could be in and out in 10 minutes.  Since I was dumping everything I didn't worry about washing my pump each time.  I just brought a ziplock bag to put the parts in and a dish towel to wipe everything off.   I would go 4-5 hours in between pumping sessions (I normally do 3 hours in between). My supply wasn't affected at all by this.

Tip- the handicapped stalls are the easiest to pump in.  They usually have a shelf or something you can set your pump on.  Or if there wasn't a shelf I would just hang my bag on the purse hook and left the pump in there.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Like I said, I feel like a pumping pro.  I am no longer nervous about being in a wedding in May and finding the time/places to pump.

  • ahhh Keeneland, my favorite place ever!

You do get a stamp to leave and can come back. I would buy a hands free pump also, just in case you need to sneak into the bathroom.

I don't know if you'd feel comfortable, but if you wanted to call- I am sure they would have a room you could use if need be.

    Good luck and have fun!

  • A friend of mine bought a hand pump for a wedding we were both in. We spent the whole day driving around on a bus to get pictures.  She kept the hand pump in an oversized purse and excused herself when necessary.  I don't think anyone else even knew what she was doing, it worked out well for her.

  • I think a hand pump is the way to go.  I hate to spend more money on a pump when I already spent like $250, but I think I'll use it other times.  Good point on Reds games!  thanks ladies!
