My kids are BOTH sick-- pedi question

The receptionist said the dr. did not have time to see them both, so I made H an appointment with the pedi and then made J an urgent care appointment (in the same building) a half hour later. ?Do you think the pedi will just look at both of them for me as long as we're all in his exam room? ?Should I ask, or is that rude?

Re: My kids are BOTH sick-- pedi question

  • If they already told you they don't have time, I would just do the 2 appointments.
  • Yeah that's what I'd do. WTF, you are already there and they are both sick.

  • I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, but I wouldn't expect it either.

  • I think I'll at least mention that J is being seen next by someone else-- I don't know. ?If J has an ear infection, I'd rather ask our own doc before I give him meds (our doc is very low intervention, which I like). ?I just don't want to be super rude.
  • As a clinical provider myself, I have to say that I hate, hate, hate when parents do this!  Buuuut I will usually give in and see the other kid anyway.  If you don't mind potentially annoying the pedi, go ahead and ask.

  • Does not hurt to ask, right?
  • I think it just depends on the doctor.  I took both mine in Tuesday for DD's ear check appt and asked if he could just check DS's ears while we were there.  He kind of gave me an attitude about it like it is such a big deal to check ears but whatever.  He wasn't my regular pedi - the one I see normally would have NO problem with it whatsoever.
  • I've worked for doctor's office and although we don't like it when patient's do that...I would ask if they can check both.  The MA's don't like to have to do vitals, weight, height, etc. on both since it takes up time...but quite frankly if they have the same thing going on the doctor is not going to use that much more time.  They will be paid for 2 visits but only use maybe 5 more minutes of time rather than 15 (but be sure they will charge the 15 time slot (99213)...maybe even more).

  • Agree with pp, docs hate this.  I think it is pretty rude as well.  They already told you they don't have time.
