2nd Trimester

so I think I'm having heart palpatations.

I'm not entirely sure if that's what they are.  I've noticed for the last few days when I lay down at night that my heart does flip flops - like little flutters.

I took my pulse and even had H put his ear to my chest to listen and both times it was beating normally.  So I'm not exactly sure if it feels like flutters or palpatations but is beating normally or what.

Thoughts?

  • Are you eating or drinking before bed?

It could be acid reflux, but check with your doctor to be sure.

  • kinda sounds like you're experiencing anxiety symptoms to me... when my anxiety hits thats exactly how it feels when it starts.  try taking a walk or having some tea.
  • I've been having these a lot.  They are very normal for young women, particularly pregnant women according to my MW and OB.  Stay hydrated and don't push it (by working out or something) when you feel them, but they're usually nothing to worry about.  I still think it's worth mentioning it to your OB just in case, though.

I do have anxiety and I used to feel tension around my heart.  This feels different though - I know that feeling of anxiety well.

I'll give my doctor a call.

    thanks ladies.

  • I've been getting these too and was wondering what the deal was.  I'm going to ask my Ob on Monday.

  • are the palpitations accompanied with a panic attack?  i use to get palpitations before bed while having an anxiety attack before i got treated for them.  if not i'm not sure what's going on but i hope they go away and you feel better!
  • It's strange - I'm not feeling anxiety when it happens - it doesn't even bother me actually, it's just something I noticed.

I'll call now and report back : )

its the same for me. i talked to my ob about it and she said as long as its not happening while im exercising or being active in any way that it might just be due to all the extra blood and fluid in my body right now and its nothing to worry about. i usually get them when im laying on the couch watching tv in the evening. she said if i start to feel them while im active that i should give her a call

  • I've noticed this too and I asked my doctor about it on Tuesday. She said it was normal at this stage in the pregnancy because of the increased blood flow through your body, your heart will have to work harder/ beat faster.
