I have to preface this with, we realize this is partially our own fault because Claire has only spent the night away from home once (last April, a trip to Manhattan that we cut short because she was such a nightmare with not sleeping). I think she needs to sleep away from home more often, but I'm not going to ship her away just because, kwim? So here is the story about our very short trip away. Luckily we only live about 2 hours from Niagara Falls, so it wasn't a big deal to come home early!
We left yesterday around 10am, stopped for brunch along the way, and got into Niagara Falls around 1. We went to the Butterfly Conservatory, it cost almost $30 to get in, and Claire was terrified. She hated it and was shaking because she was so scared of the butterflies. After about 1/2 hour we decided to just leave. We were able to check in early at our hotel, the Doubletree (which was great, by the way!) and got settled. We didn't really have much to do at that point because it was really yucky weather out, so we drove around and checked out different places. We went for dinner at the Rainforest Cafe, and Claire liked it, but if we ask her about it now, she'll say it was scary. We went back to the hotel for the highlight of the trip, our swim in the pool! Claire loved it and keeps talking about the waterfall in the pool. We went back to the room, got ready for bed and she went down pretty easily-what a relief! (ETA: or so I thought.........) She has a cough/cold right now, and I think her cough woke her up around 2 and she never fell back asleep. Finally, at 4:30 this morning we gave up and got up. We decided to just come home because there was no point trying to have fun with a tired, cranky toddler, and we had only gotten a few hours of sleep as well. So, we checked out of the hotel and were on our way home by 6:15. By 9:20 I was totally unpacked, had started a load of laundry, and it's as though we never left our house! hahaha...oh, well...
