if augmentin gave DC stomach aches, help?

DD is on it.  I've tried with food, without food, with water, with milk, with just crackers....

She doesn't have the runs, but multiple times a day will say her tummy hurts.  I always ask if she's hungry or has to poop, she knows the difference at this point - any tips besides calling the doc? blah.

Re: if augmentin gave DC stomach aches, help?

  • Not any of my DC's but me.  Yes...call the doctor.  If she feels like I felt she is miserable.  I had cramping so bad for 3 days and finally just exploded (TMI I know) and it was baaad.  I got on something else immediately and have never had it again.  I refuse to take it.  I'm not allergic to it but it was so bad.  Poor little girl.  I'd call the pedi asap and get something else.
  • I always give my DD Florostor for Kids when she has an antibiotic. It does helps with the diarrhea, but also helps her go.

I hope Sam is feeling better soon!

  • Our pedi advised us to just basically just suck it up and deal with the GI side effects (nice, huh?).  He said if you can just get through them, there's really no better antibiotic to use.  So with DS and his double EI, we literally had to pry open his mouth and force it down, and then clean up his vomit and diarrhea for 10 straight days.  It cleared up the EI just great, but it may have scarred him for life against any liquid medication.  It's been 2 months and he is just now letting me give him small squirts of Motrin!
  • DD had such bad issues that I had to call the doctor.  I could actually hear her tummy making terrible sounds while she sat next to me.  He took her off immediately and put her on Omnicef, which worked better for her.
