Reflux mommies! Spit up vs vomit

Ds just had his reflux meds upped but this week he has been heaving and throwing up what looks like REALLY thick spit up. Do you think this I'd vomit or just more spit up? His reflux has been controllednreally well with the prilosec and so this is really strange. 6-12 doesn't understand this question quite like you girls do! Thanks for your input!

This sounds like more of a vomit issue than spit up.  Is it curdled like it was digested, and how much long after he ate?  When DS spits up, it's usually still watery and thin and soon after he eats.  It wouldn't hurt to call the doc, though.  GL!

sounds like vomit to me too. ?DD's reflux spit up was almost immediately following her bottle...not so much longer later that it was semi-digested. ?could he have a bug? ?if it's been well controlled up to this point i'd think maybe it could be attributed to an illness. ?you might want to call your doctor if it keeps up. ?HTH

Could be vomit? Just so you know, it took a good week before we saw a change in upping DD's medication. She is also on Prilosec.

I always wondered the same too...then DS caught the stomach flu...there was no longer a question.  His puking was much different than spit-up; there was A LOT more and it had more force.  Spit-up just seems to flow out, vomit had some force behind it.  DS has reflux too (he's on Zantac), so I was used to seeing a lot of spit-up.  Wouldn't hurt to call your pedi if you're concerned, just ask to speak to the nurse, they are so helpful.
