2 yr old and nightmares?

Last night, Gracie woke me up at 3:30 and 4:30 am calling for "mommy!".  This is unlike her.  She usually sleeps through the night.  She has a yeast diaper rash right now but her diaper was clean and dry, she didn't seem bothered, and she still had her paci (which she is only allowed to have at night).

She cuddled for a couple minutes each time and fell back to sleep.  I mentioned it to dh and he suggested maybe she was having bad dreams.  I never even thought of this!  WDYT?

Yep.  My DD gets both night terrors and nightmares and they started around that time.

2 is when they start to develop imagination... DS started having bad dreams right around his 2nd birthday.

Yes, MS has night terrors all the time.  In fact, last night was one of his worst.  He woke up screaming at the top of his lungs and pointing towards the wall telling me that there was an owl in the tree and that it was scary.  The book I read to him before he went to sleep was about an owl so that explains that.  He often talks in his sleep or wakes up telling me about his dreams.  I feel sorry for him!
