pumping advice needed

I hope this is my last pump related question for awhile!!  :-)

DS is down to 4 nursing sessions a day at the most.  On the days I work he only nurses first thing in the am and before bed.  On those days I pump once at work at lunch and I'm only getting 2oz total.  I only work 3 days.  The days I'm home he nurses before his 2 naps in addition to am and pm.  He is finally taking cow's milk really well, so I don't need the EBM to supplement anymore.  Do I still need to pump at work?  I'm SOOOOO ready to pack away the pump, but I don't want to jump the gun.  I'm not ready to quit BFing any time soon, unless he all of a sudden decides to stop.  What do you think?

Re: pumping advice needed

  • I don't think you need to pump at work anymore.  If you're only pumping once a day, anyway, cutting out the one session shouldn't cause you too much discomfort and it won't affect the nursing on the days you're home.

  • I wouldn't pump anymore personally!  I threw my pump in the closet months ago but I am able to nurse him once a day while working.  I nurse him in the morning, afternoon, evening, and bedtime still but we are going to try and see how he does without the afternoon feeding starting next week since he is on cow's milk also.  I will let him nurse whenever he wants when I am around but when my supply goes, it goes.  I HATED pumping!  Good luck!

  • I remember being  worried about supply issues once I stopped pumping. I finally packed it away for good at about 14 months. I didn't have any issues nursing Nora whenever she wanted until about 18 months when she weaned herself. I was working 4 days then. On the days I was home wi th her, she seemed to get what she wanted throughout the day. It seemed like my body really just adjusted to what Nora needed.
