still need poop help (sorry!)

DD's poop saga has been going on for a month now.  She was constipated  for a day and since then she cries every time she has to go.  Pretty much all she's been eating is fruit so her poop is not hard (again, sorry).  I took her to the dr to have her checked two weeks ago and the pedi said it is psychological.  Last weekend she had an EI so I asked about it at urgent care and that dr said the same thing.

So...she eats fruits, tons of fluids, and I've cut WAY back on milk and cheese.  She won't eat prunes or prune juice but I mix baby food prunes in her apple sauce.  We aren't PTing so nothing has changed as far as how she goes.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I am sick of having to watch her lay on the floor and cry when she has to go.  Thanks. :)

  • Aw, poor girl. That sounds so awful and painful.  Do you give her juice?  Apple juice usually does the trick.

  • Does she have anal fissures?  Gracie has hard poops sometimes and they cause her to get small cuts around her anus which are really sore.  We treat them with antibiotic ointment and try to keep her diet even keeled.

Anyway, maybe she has these and they are causing her pain?  Gracie's never bother her enough to make her cry while going...they just hurt when we wipe her.

  • Maybe you could try potty training now? ?It might sound dumb, but this could be a good time to start now that you know when she needs to go. ?Tell her that she gets to do something special and give her something (a sticker or whatever) if she poops in the potty. ?I'm thinking that maybe she won't cry if she can get excited about it?

I have tried pear juice, but it hasn't seemed to make a difference.  I will try apple.

    Love your new sig pics!!

  • Definitely try apple juice.  My pedi had me giving it to Benjamin (mixed with cereal) when he first started solids, because solids were binding him up.

Not the same, but apple juice makes things, er, much smoother.

    Hope she feels better soon.

  • 2 of my nieces are on fiber supplements (the ones old people stir into their water). ?Maybe that would help?

  • Have you tried Plum Smart? My DD like prune juice but loves this.  Actually, I used to drink this while I was pregnant.
