So I know you're not "supposed" to but the crib by the window but when my hubby asked why not, the only real danger I could name was with the cord on the blinds. He was like, "ok, so we'll just put the bracket up high and wrap the cord around where he could never possibly reach." Is there any other real reason we can't put the crib there? I did a google search and found reasons like, "it's not safe" or "the baby could fall out the window." Ummmm, we won't open the window then.

Re: Crib next to window?
I have no idea. I'm planning on putting the crib either directly below a window or in a corner between 2 windows. Those are my only options because of how the room is laid out.
Maybe drafts? It could be colder by a window if you don't have a good seal.
The only thing would concern me is that when you put a bed in general next to a window, if it's really cold or hot outside it will directly affect whoever is sleeping on it!
I don't think falling out of the window is really something that would happen, lol.
my DH is kind of paranoid about things so he gave me a couple reasons:
1. if it's really cold or really hot the window is the last place you want your baby sleeping next to
2. if there is severe weather a window might shatter
3. the cords on the blinds when she is able to reach them would pose a problem
4. and i know this is ridiculous...someone can take her "easily".
i think the first 3 are good enough reasons though
I think our husbands are friends...DH will not allow the crib to even be close to the window and these (minus #4) are the reasons he gave too.
We have a window at the top of our staircase. A few months ago, DH missed a step and put his arm through the window despite the fact that he barely touched the glass. That being said, it sounded like a sonic boom and the blood and glass were everywhere. ER visit, stitches, bad scars, it was not pretty. I do NOT want to think about what that would have been like had it been my baby putting pressure on the glass of the window in his room.
Theres that and-my grandmother did the same exact thing with her blinds, wound the string up at the top thinking that her kids coudn't get to them, and one day she came in and literally found my Dad hanging from the cord,. Obviously, she caught him in time, and he was of course a toddler and mobile by then but still... you'd be amazed at what kids can get into when you don't think they're capable of it. I'd 86 the blinds altogether and keep the crib away from the window unless there is not other possible way to get the crib in the room.
Its bad feng shui. According to this philosophy it creates a feeling of insecurity for baby and parents. You aren't supposed to put the bed under the window because it puts you in a place of vulnerability.
Oh, well in that case forget it. If I had known there was a solid reason like bad feng shui, I wouldn't have even considered it.
Oh you wanted a solid, logical reason? Then I have no idea. Sometimes I like to answer questions even when I don't really know.
Ha!
drafts
falling (window doesn't need to be open- a child trying to climb out could fall and crash through window)
cords
I usually lurk, but another reason may be light coming in the window. (Unless you have black out blinds or something like that). DS has always liked his room dark (no night-lights, door closed, etc) and before we put a shade up, the sun would wake him during naps and early in the morning. After putting up the blinds, he would sleep soundly for 2-3 hours and until 8 am every morning.
Also, living in Florida, even though you have tint on the windows, you'd be surprised how warm it gets next to a window.
