AFLAC Question

My work uses AFLAC for their short term disability plans and I was hired just after the initial sign up period.  The insurance rep came around last week for new employees to sign up and I was interested in the STD plan that they offer.

Unfortunately, since I am currently pregnant, if I were to get the policy, it wouldn't be effective for this pregnancy unless there were "complications".  I tried to look up what they define as "complications" but haven't had much luck pinning down a definite answer.  The rep said that if I were to be put on bed rest, that would be considered a "complication" and the policy would kick in.

Basically I'm wondering if it would be worth my while to get the plan just in case I end up on bed rest or having a "complication", or if anyone here has AFLAC and knows what qualifies as a "complication".

Re: AFLAC Question

  • i had it with my last job (but now i am SAH) and it would only pay for the minimum 6 weeks of mat leave, i had signed up for the 6 month premium, just in case there were complications, such as pre term labor and bed rest, as well as recovering from a C section i think as well, since the recoup is a little longer....i also got the icu plan and the rider plan, which reimburses you if you have to use the nicu for any reason etc...i have to research it some more before DD is born...i cant remeber what i signed up for, but the STD...i cancelled since i am not working...i would get it, its not too expensive in the long run and you get paid for your leave!!!
