Question for moms of boys

I posted yesterday about DS's skin right below the head of his penis being really red on one side.  Well this morning I thought it looked a little better (after putting neosporin on it all day yesterday and dabbing it with a warm washcloth when I change him to clean it), but this afternoon when I changed him it was actually bleeding the tiniest bit.  He was circumcised 3 days after he was born, so I don't know what this could be.  I am definitely calling the pedi in the morning, but in the meantime, does anyone have any idea what could be going on?  I feel so horrible for him even though he doesn't act like it is bothering him at all.

  • Hmm could it be sticking to the inside of the diaper and then getting pulled when you change him? Definitely talk to your pedi!

  • Poor little man!

I think neosporin and a call to the pedi is about all you should do.  Good luck!!

  • Yep - you need the pedi on this; might be unhealed from the circ wound. Make sure his penis is straight before you fasten the 2nd side of the diaper - other than that, I have no idea.
  • I don't know, but DS had something similar but it was on his scrotum.  It was a little red for awhile and bled once.  It was from his diaper, so we switched to more sensitive ones.  I put neosporin on it and it went away and hasn't come back.
  • just a PSA - don't use the Neosporin "+ pain relief" on any genital area - I believe it will cause severe itching.

Yikes!  Thank you for telling me that - that's what I have been using.  Now I feel even worse. Maybe I will go pick up some A&D ointment to use instead.

Can I ask what kind of diapers you were using and what kind you switched to?
