Inductions?

How soon are you all planning on being induced if you don't go into labor on your own?  I am thinking I will at 41 weeks (March 2nd) but my doc will do it as soon as this coming week if I want at 39 weeks..  it's tempting but I don't think I can just give in like that.... I want to feel my body go into labor on it's own.  How bout you mamas???

If I don't go before then, I'm inducing on my due date.

My Dr may induce this upcoming week if I do not go naturally before then, she said b/c I am borderline Pre-eclamsia (sp?).

My doc doesn't do them before 41w. I was induced with DD at 40w3d because I was miserable, and while I had a good experience I wish I had waited to see if I went on my own.

I would not do it unless necessary. Inductions carry a lot of risks. Mine was not successful, and they had to do an emergency c/s. My advice would be to hold off if you can.

My doctor is hesitant to induce unless medically necessary. With that said, because I have GD and am on bed rest for high bp she will not let me go more than a few days after my due date. If my sugars or bp gets too high then at earliest she will induce is 39 weeks, barring any harm to me or baby if not done sooner.  I am kind of praying I go into labor on my own sooner rather than later.

My doctor offered to talk about it last week and I turned her down.  My next appointment is Wednesday and I will be 40 weeks 1 day.  We are going to talk induction then, she mentioned we will probably schedule something for later in the week.  So I'll be almost 41 weeks.

Ahhh, I love that we're in the same boat/ due date pumpkin.. Can i ask a few questions?  My DH wants me to induce on our due date (24th) if no baby yet just b/c he doesn't want to wait anymore.  It's not medically necessary at all.  Would yours be for a medical reason or just b/c you don't want to wait?  Are you scared that the labor would be longer and harder, and last question, how far effeaced & dilated are you now?  Thanks so much for any answers   I'm totally on the fence & know it doesn't help that my DH doesn't want to wait... but need an answer  for my doc by my appoinyment tomorrow...

My dr does not want to induce untill 42 weeks so we are scheduling a date tuesday it will be like for thur/fri. I dont want to wait that long Id rather schedule it for tomorrow or tues.

I would not schedule an induction prior to 42 weeks unless there was a medical reason to do so, and I would wait beyond 42 weeks if non-stress tests and ultrasound showed the baby was healthy and amniotic fluid was OK.

My doctor will let me go to 42w, but only if the baby is not in distress and everything looks OK with fluid levels, etc.  If fluid levels are low or she has any reason to medically induce, she induces at 41w (if not before, obviously).

Son had fetal inemia. And my fluid levels were low. They were going to do a transfusion in utero, but opted to induce at exactly 37 weeks. Willis turned out ok, he had to spend a few days in NICU, due to fluid displacement ( related to the anemia) and a low platelet count. When they tried the induction, they tried two different methods. Both sent me into conctractions, when at first it was only supposed to soften my cervix (which it did not do). Towards the end, my contractions were on top of eachother. And his heart rate plummeted. That is when they did the emergency c/s. 

But not every time is bad. I just had a bad experience. Like I said, son turned out fine, and I could not be a happier mama.

We will not induce until 41 weeks unless medically necessary.

Unless medically necessary, I will not induce until 42 weeks.  I'm excited to meet her, but I want her to stay in there for as long as she needs to.  I don't want any interventions unless necessary for her safety and mine.

Hey, sorry for the late reply on this. I just got back from dinner. 

I wouldn't say it's medically necessary, but I'm not comfortable going overdue.  I've heard too many women say that their amniotic fluid starts to get low or their placenta was not providing enough nourishment.

I feel like if the gestation period for humans is 40 weeks and she doesn't want to come early.. 40 weeks is what is right.  It's really personal preference. 

I don't think that labor will be longer or harder because I am almost 100% effaced.  She is very very very head down and ready. 

And, don't let your hubby or anyone else influence you.  It is your body.  If you are not comfortable with an induction, don't do it. I'd much rather do this on my due date, than be miserable for an extra 7 days just to "appease the board" and end up with an induction anyways.. This is what I am comfortable with after talking to my doctor and it really is my decision.

This is something I've not really thought about but know that I'm going to struggle with...I hope that the doc gives me some info on his preferences for inductions at my appt on Tuesday.

I'm surprised so many of you "get" to decide. My MW said she couldn't until 41 weeks exactly, I definitely would have gone a little earlier if I could as I have been dilated and effaced for a few weeks now.
