Babies: 0 - 3 Months

RE: 5/6mo: If you started solids around 4 months...

How much does your baby eat in the way of solids? Our pedi said we could start around 4 months. He said we could feed her as much as we wanted. So, not much guidance.

We started feeding her 1 cube of avocado, then sweet potatoes, then peas for dinner.

We just started oatmeal with fruit in the mornings. She loves food! She stares at us while we eat!

When do we start doing solids at lunch ?

  • We have not started solids yet, but check out wholesomebabyfood.com I think it has what you are looking for.

  • At 4 months we started cereal once a day. By 5 months it was cereal with fruit mixed in the morning and a jar of veggies around dinner. DS is now 6 months and we are adding "lunch" this week.
  • The guidelines for 4-6 mo I have say:

    24-40 oz formula/BM

    2-3 tsp ceareal

    1/4-1/2 cup veggies

    1/2 cup fruit

we do one container of fruit with some cereal in the am and one container of veggies in the pm.

  • I know how you feel...we received no guidance other than a piece of paper with a little bit of info on it.

We started w/ cereal at night. Once we intro. some fruits, we started mixing a 1/2 container of fruit in the cereal.

One day he gave us problems with drinking a bottle in the morning and since then he has been getting cereal and fruit in the morning too.

When we were introducing the foods, he would also get the new food in the mid-afternoon.

This is what our day looks like right now (times are approximate):

    5 AM- 6 oz. formula
8:45 AM- 4 tblspns of cereal, 1/2 container of fruit, and formula (usually 6 oz., but sometimes it is less)
    12:15- 6 oz. formula
4:00- full container of veggies and formula (b/t 4 and 6 oz.)
7:15-  4 tblspns of ceral, 1/2 container of fruit, and 6 oz. formula

I do eventually want to move the veggies to the lunch feeding. I would also like to give the evening cereal at supper time, but I am soooo afraid that if I move it to dinner time, we will wake up before 5 AM to eat.
