I orginally really wanted the Summer handheld video baby monitor, but DH just doesn't think it is necessary since we live in a small 2 bedroom (1 floor) apartment. So the farthest away we would be from our sleeping baby is outside the door or in the room directly next to baby's.
But I know that I wish I would have been able to see what the twins were doing when their pediatrican reccomended to put them in their crib not completely asleep and let them fall asleep on their own. (the kids were 3 and not sleeping through the night, but this was when they were like 9 months old) They would cry and it is fustrating when you can't see what they are doing. And than I think of when we babysit my niece; she just gets a bottle and put in her crib so she cries before falling asleep, it is a relief to be able to see what she was doing, (like standing up crying, laying down crying, and not hurt or some other reason that we should have gone in and got her).
Do you think the video monitor is something I will regret NOT getting if I don't get it, or will I think it is a waste of money if I do get it?
Re: Is the Video Baby monitor Necessary?
I did not think so until DD started standing in her crib.
It is SO great to be able to tell if they are crying in their sleep or actually awake. Tearing their crib apart at nap time, taking their diaper off or undressing or just trying to fall alseep, tryingn to climb out or just kicking the mattress (which DD does when falling asleep), all without you going into the room.
waste of $
I really love ours, we have the summer infant one as well, and I couldn't imagine not having it!
Just bought one because he will play quietly in his crib and I never know if he is sleeping or what!
Hopefully it'll give me an idea of what he's really doing during his naps!!?
It's a necessity for me
DS has been in his room from day one so it's been great to have the video monitor because I don't feel the need to jump up every time he makes a noise. Our room is right across the hall but that doesn't really help me see in the crib.
We also have a motion monitor. Maybe it's overkill but it gives me peace of mind.
Good luck!
