Q about first names and hair color

We've been between our final two names for awhile now, which are Abigail ("Abby") and Natalie.

Earlier I was thinking about what name would fit better with a daughter of ours, and I was thinking that at least to me, that Abby would go better with a fair (and possibly blond) little girl.  Natalie I think would go better with a darker child.  I know this is all based on who you've been around and seen, but what do you think Natalies typically look like as far as their coloring of hair/skin/eyes, especially as compared with Abigails/Abbys?

The hair color of our child could end up being anything from dark brown/black to red to very light blond (like DS's, or even lighter).  However, it's pretty much guaranteed that our child will have fair skin and blue eyes.

WDYT?

  • The only Natalie I've known was a strawberry blonde with brown eyes and freckles.

The only Abby I've known was a pale blonde with blue eyes.

  • My DD was born very dark but gets lighter by the day, it's almost blonde now. My sister Natalie has gorgeous, healthy warm brown hair (but still has bright blue eyes).

  • My mom is the only Natalie I know and she's a fair skinned blonde.  The only Abby I know is newly's and she's a fair blonde, too.  Of course, your kid could be blonde as a child and then grow into a brunette.

If we have a girl, there's a 90% chance she'll be a Natalie and she'll be another caramel baby like Luc.

    I don't know, I guess I don't associate skin tone/hair color with names.

  • If anything, I think of them as opposite-- Abigail with dark hair, and Natalie with light hair. ?Really, though, I don't have very strong associations with most names and coloring. ?And if I did and named my child that name anyway, that association would likely change to whatever characteristics my child had.

  • Hey, I understand- try choosing names when you don't even know what race your child would be, nevermind the hair color!

I would say take both names to the hospital and just see which ones "fits" her best when she gets here. Also, no matter which one you choose, babies grow into their names. After a while, you'll see her and know she could be nothing else than the one you chose :)

FWIW- the only Natalie I know is fair skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes. The only Abby I know has olive skin and dark hair/eyes.

  • When I hear Natalie I think of either Natalie Woods (dark hair) or our friends grown daugther Natalie (light hair).  When I think of Abby (Abigail) I think of light hair.  I only know one IRL and she has light hair.
  • I know one Abigail-dark brunette, and one Natalie-blonde
