you know? what was your inspiration?
Juniper I got ( as I posted earlier) from a Donovan song ( We are all about 60's and 70's pop music in this house, among other things..I wanted a second daughter to be Saffron, but we got a boy instead-which brings me to:
Wyatt is from Weird Science, which was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I always looooved the name Wyatt because of it. He was cute.
People immediately assume Wyatt Earp- whom I know nothing about- I can not STAND western movies and never watch them ( I did like Dead Man, and Deadwood, on HBO-so I guess if there is the word Dead in it I am down...) anyway- his name almost wasn't Wyatt b/c I thought it was too common and too yee haw...but the hubs would NOT be broken down- I loved Jasper, he hated it.
He was almost Crispin, but we didn't want him to be Cris, and it would eventually have been- his parents pretend Juniper is actually named June, and that is what they tell people ( I hate it.)
the end.
Re: Where did you get your child's name?
Your daughter's name is Juniper? I absolutely love that. Jealous! DD's middle name is June already (which is a family name) otherwise I might be using that next week!
DD's name is Aurora. It was inspired by a variety of things, my favorite Foo Fighters song, the name of a town near where DH grew up, and the nothern lights.
Sophia was one of the few girl names we both loved, and also my great grandma's name. I'm all about classic names.?
Lyn is a family name on both sides.?
These posts always make me sad because, honestly, I still didn't really *love* the name Abigail the day we gave it to her. I will never be able to tell her the inspiration for her name. There isn't a story. It's just that almost NO names go with our last name, esp. girl names. We had an impossible time finding anything. I love it now, but our hands are so tied with this last name.
P.S. Her middle name is a family female middle name - Abby is the 5th or 6th female on DH's side to be a something Rae. I love this one at least.
DD's name is Dana. I've always liked that name and DH agreed.
Her MN is Gabrielle which I totally regret giving her. It's just a name that I picked b/c it's pretty and long, and her first/last names are short. Meaningless and dumb. I wish I'd given her the MN Rae/Ramona or else none at all. The uncle who raised me was dying when DD was born, and his name was Raymond, but I just couldn't bring myself to give her that MN. It would have been too hard to see it - like a funeral before the death. The next kid, male or female, will have some form of Raymond in his/her name.
Alexander was the only boy's name we both loved. We have a one-syllable last name, so we ideally wanted a long name that had a NN that was not only one syllable (if it had a NN), so Alex works.
His MN is Korean. MIL went through her family records and picked it. It's Junha (Joon Ha would be the more common transliteration into English, but I didn't like the two Os so I changed it and now I'm kind of sorry I did). DH's relatives call him Junha instead of Alex, so it's also his official Korean name.
Alex (11/14/06) and Nate (5/25/10)
"Want what you have, do what you can, be who you are." - Rev. Forrest Church
Eric is the name my parents would have given me if I were a boy. ?It is a good Norwegian name (I am half Norwegian) and I thought it was a good balance with my husband's Israeli last name.
Kyle was just a name I have always loved. ?No particular inspiration ?
Ryan 5/2010, Kyle 1/2007, Eric 3/2005
DD's name is Adra but said Audra...I was 16 and not finished school, I was an idiot and thought you could say Adra with a long "A". It was one of the 1st names I saw in the baby book and I liked the meaning. Audra means "noble".
DS's name will be Noah. He got that name because DH was hell bent on naming him Ishod, which is a Hebrew name for man of glory. I told him there is no way my son's 1st name will be Ishod, kids will pick on him. So, since we were already on the Hebrew baby names website (yes there is one!) we looked for a name that would sound good with Ishod and Noah fit the part.
DS is William Jacob. William after DH's grandfather and uncle and Jacob after DH.
If we ever have a daughter, her name will be Anna Elizabeth. Anna afer my grandmother who I love so much (and miss so much!) and Elizabeth after my little sister. She's the closest friend I've ever had (other than DH).
Leah is named after DH's grandmother who practically raised him. MIL was a single mom and went on to get a masters and PhD after DH was born, and could not have done it without grandma's (Leah's) help....the cool thing is that this was HER ex-MIL, and not even her own mother! Apparently a really cool old lady....I wish I could have met her, but she passed away before I met DH. We got Morgan while watching the Astros....Morgan Ensberg came up to bat, and Dh was like, "What about Morgan as a name?" and I was like, "yeah that's cool...." (but she's not really named for Morgan Ensberg).
Forest is named for my mom's family (her maiden name)....my grandpa would have been really stoked by this since he was such a geneology buff and traced the Forest Family back to the 1400's in France. Thomas is DH's, his father's and his grand-father's middle name.
Obviously, we're pretty big on family names for our kids!
Kate was the ONLY girl name DH and I both agreed on after months of battling. I didn't *love* it, but I liked it, one of my oldest friends is named Kate so I had a positive association even though we didn't name her after my friend, and I really wanted to use the middle name I wanted, so I compromised. Her middle name is Donnelly, which is my grandmother's maiden name.
For this baby, we have a similar situation. We can't find a boy first name we both agree on, but the middle name is a family name on DH's side and is set (Chamberlain).
Even though I played along with my husband, looking through the baby name books and making lists, etc. I never felt like there was another option for me, it that odd? I have loved this name for as long as I can remember. It's not too common, and it Hebrew, which was not a must-have (even though we're Jewish), but a bonus. I like the name Jordan but felt it was too common for girls nowadays to be used as a male first name. Noah has a 3rd name, his Hebrew name, which we chose per Jewish tradition of naming your child in honor of someone (even though his first and middle English names are of Hebrew origin). It's Avraham - in honor of my husband's maternal grandparents and my paternal grandfather, all "A" names.
Noah (The Notebook) Benjamin (My dad and grandpa's name)
Maren (went to school with a girl whose mn was Mar. It means the sea in Spanish. I always thought that was pretty. Maren means of the sea) June (grandmother's name, mom's mn)
Everyone on MH's side (well him, MIL, dad & BIL) are "L" names and he felt strongly about sticking with that, hence Lucas. We don't like Luke as a nn for Lucas, so we spell it Luc for short. His mn is Aaron after my dad.
We have a few names picked out for #2. For a boy, another "L" name and for a girl after my mother. The oldest girls are named after their maternal grandmothers in my family (so I'm named after my grandmother).
Okay not to be picky or anything but Logan was actually Mary Anne's boyfriend. Am I a total dork now?
For DS we were watching Lord of the Rings at the theater (first or second) and during the credits it had Elijah Wood's name and I just realized I loved the name Elijah. His middle name is Xin which is the more contemporary Chinese spelling of my maiden name.
For DD we first heard the name Evangeline because we're LOST fans. DH and I just really fell in love with the name. We plan on using only Chinese names for middle names so for Evie we picked Mei which means beautiful in Chinese, and a combo of other things depending.
Lawrence is named after my grandfather. His middle name is my H's grandpa's. I decided at 7 I wanted to name my first child after my gramps and H said that was fine (it was a "condition" when we started dating), but he got to use Axel.
Andersen is a combination of my H's grandpa's name and my maiden name. Jace was suggested by my aunt and my grandpa was really pulling for Jason, so it's kind-of to honor them. There's also some family ties to it. We almost went with Michael for the middle name, but we liked being able to call him "AJ."
I love family names. If we have a third and it's a boy, I don't know what we'll do because we're out of good ones.
Nora was inspired by...finding a name in the baby book we both loved. Her middle name DH randomly said one day. That's a pretty romantic story, huh?
I had a friend in middle school who had DD's first name. Most important to me was the the name was not going to be popular anytime in the near future, and her name is barely in the top 1000 thanks to our current Secretary of State. It also has a great meaning - "cheerful" It totally fits her
Her middle name was just another name we liked and thought it sounded nice with her first name.
I'm not into family names and I have issues with popular names. I'm weird like that.
Evie was actually our runner up name - and I first heard it because of Lost haha
