I've been vegetarian for a while now, and I'm concerned that the baby's not getting enough protein (I am very thin and was concerned about protein for myself before I got pregnant). I ate chicken last night for the first time in over a year and I woke up this morning with the worst m/s I've had this whole time. I really dont want to put meat back into my diet especially if it's going to make me sicker than I already am every morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for protein-rich vegetarian foods? I'd really like to bring the baby into the world with the least amount of toxins in his/ her body.
Re: Vegetarian Momma
Black beans are one of my favorite foods. Perhaps, after you have found a couple of high protein foods you like then you can post again asking for ideas on how to fix them. That might be interesting!
Peanut butter, cheese, beans, nuts, boca and morningstar have wonderful soy protein meat substitutes. Im a vegetarian and I have no problem gaining weight and staying healthy. Dont eat chicken and meat if you dont have to. It will make you sick because your body is not used to it. There are plenty of protein rich foods you can eat.
GL!!!
I'm a vegetarian also (but i eat fish). I was nervous about the way i ate until last week. I now write out a weekly meal plan on sundays and it's so much easier. I honestly beieve that you can be healthier if you do not eat meat -at least red meat -b/c it takes at least 2 weeks to digest red meat -i even plan on raising my kids vegetairain.
If you're worried about being a vegetairan and skinny, than start having a baked potatoe with broccoli every day as a snack. But the best thing is to talk to your doctor and tell her/him that you want to continue being a vegetairain but you're worried...
I live by this list:
PROTEINS: Beans, Peas, Tofu, Nuts, Seeds, Penut butter, Eggs
BREADS: Brand bread, cereal, pasta, rice
FRUIT & VEGETABLES: pretty much any vegetable and any fruit
DAIRY: Milk, Yogurt, Cheese, Cottage cheese
NOTES...
I have a half to one cup of beans every single day (as a side)
I have chana masala once a week -yumm!
I eat salmon twice a week with broccoli or spinach
I sometimes make an egg wrap for dinner (2 eggs w/ cheese w/ onionns & peppers) - i love breakfast at dinner!
Another favorite is i make Quesedia's: whole wheat wrap with a smear of goat cheese, steamed broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and then folded in half and toasted -yummie!!!!!!
I have a 1 cup of broccoli every day
I created a spreadsheet and it has rules for every day, every week, and every month. example: beans.. it's under every day and i check it off when i completed it -loads of work but i guess since i have a desk job, i end up staring at the darn spreadsheet all day long
enjoy!
