2nd Trimester

Zofram?

So I have been get sick off and on for over a week now the doctor says its "just morning sickness" so he perscribed this for me. Its kinda pricey, does anyone know if it helps and if there are any side effects? Thanks!

Re: Zofram?

  • I haven't used it during pg but I can tell you it did wonders on nausea caused by chemo, and I hear pretty good things about it from pg women with m/s (not all, but most). IMO, it's worth the money to at least try it if you're really feeling that nauseous.

  • The generic, ondansetron, should be cheaper.

The only side effect I had is that it constipated the hell out of me, but it worked like a charm!  As of yet, there is no evidence that it affects the baby.  My mom works for a home infusion company and she always told me not to worry about the Zofran.  They give their hyperemesis gravidarum patients (they call them pregnant pukers) MUCH stronger drugs via IV and their babies are always fine.

  • I used it for the first few months because I couldn't keep anything down the only bad part is that it caused extream constipation to the point where i was in pain. But it did help me from puking.
  • Most people with morning sickness take this.  Some will say it doesn't really help with the nausea, but they can keep their food down.  Some say it helps with everything, including their nausea.

I'm on Phenergan because it's a lot cheaper.  I have no nausea now and no throwing up.  I was taking it every 6 hours, as recommended by my doctor, but now I can take it in the morning and it helps me all day (I get all-day sickness).

The generic is cheaper and I found it to work just as well - if you are feeling really sick it's like a miracle drug. I took it for about 6 weeks during first trimester and I would counteract the constipation by taking Colace (or a generic brand)....helps a lot.

  • I did not use it while pregnant but did following a previous surgery and it worked really well.

  • ok thanks ladies. i think i will be filling the prescription!
  • It was my best friend. I lost 15lbs during my 1st trimester due to severe morning sickness and this was the only thing that allowed me to function during the day and eat.
  • I took it during my 1st trimester. It took the edge off the nausea, but the nausea was still there. And the constipation (even with colase) was horrific...
  • Do you mean Zofran?  It helped me a lot.  We found that Cosco had it for a great price (20 dollars for 30 pills).  We already had a Cosco membership, and it has seriously paid for itself 5 times over with the amount we've saved on this medicine alone.

The biggest side effect I had was increased tiredness.

  • I call Zofran my little miracle drug.  I haven't noticed ANY side effects and I take the generic.  It costs me $10 per week and they will only give me a week at a time.  I lost 10 lbs in less than a month and when I went last night I had gained it all back.
