car seat question?

Once DC reaches the weight capacity on the forward facing car seat, what's the next step?  Do they have to be a certain height, weight, age for a booster or is there a step in between?  We are wanting to get a 2nd seat.  I'm going to be turning DS forward facing soon so I have no idea what to get.  Any advice or recs would be much appreciated!!

Re: car seat question?

  • some FF seats with internal harnesses have higher weight limits (some go to ~60lbs) than others.  But usually the next step is the booster seat when they outgrow the weight limits on the FF seat.

A combination seat like the Graco Nautilus have harnesses up to 65 lbs, then convert to a booster to 100lbs.

  • We have the Britax Roundabout, which has a FF max weight of 40 pounds and a seat max height of 40 inches.  Justin will be past one or both of those pretty easily before he's 4 years old, so we are going to have to invest in another convertible seat with higher limits.

I'd go with a convertible seat that accommodates weights over 40 pounds and 40 inches if your DC is tall or at the top of the charts for weight (like mine is).

  • Get a convertible carseat that they can stay in for a while.

We got the Evenflo Triumph and really like it, it also got really great reviews.

    Good luck!

  • We have a convertible that can go up to 100lbs.  We will end up with a booster when he is able but this way we have no concerns about buying a new one before the booster age.  Good luck!
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!
