Okay, I need some advice from those of you who use one of the two. I am wanting to open up either of the two from my home, I can't make up my mind to which one. If I go with the MDO set up it would be M-W-F, 9-3. $20 a child, $25 w/ lunch, and $15 per addtional child, $20 w/ lunch. There would be no contract, basically as needed. I would set a schedule per month at a time just to make sure I didn't need additional days off that month.
Or
Open the daycare from home, which I have all the paper work to become certified if I wanted, although most who I have talked to would rather pay less per week and not claim the child care, than pay more per week and claim it at the end of the year. I would charge $150/week and $120 per addtional child, however I would only do 3-4 depending on ages.
As a mom, what is more appealing? What are the pros and cons?
Sorry It So Long! And We Find out what we are having on 3/13!!!!!!!
TIA!
Re: MDO and/or Home Daycare
when we went to visit schools/day cares we asked a lot of questions. the one that won out was a school that had a whole curriculum for infants - that was one thing that was super important.
wait - you are pregant now and you are opening up a day care from your home? I'm confused... or are you looking for one?
we were the opposite. infants don't really need a cirriculum and learn by doing and playing and exploring. even at 2, we chose the school we have our son in b/c it has a cirrculum but it's very loose and they spend the majority of their time interacting and playing.
for your situation, i will say i would not enroll my child in a home based day care that was not certified in some way. i could easily get someone to come to my own house for only slightly more. i think if you really want to do it, you should go the home daycare route and you can offer full or p/t spaces for the kids.
I agree.
The only way my child would be in a non-certified day care was it he was with a family member and extremely close friend and I knew all of the other children very well.
Both of my children go to an in-home. She is licensed/certified by the state and follows the guidelines as written. She also reports her taxes. By you not doing so, I would think that would be illegal on your part. Bad idea.
I pay $135 a week per child. I do not get a sibling discount nor do I expect one in an in-home situation. As a business, I would not offer a sibling discount if I were you. You lose money that way. Just don't take siblings and you would have more income.
The MDO route doesn't sound like it would financially benefit you. How many kids in MDO would you take a day at $20-$25 dollars (and only $15 for a sibling). You are ripping yourself off there. Or are you wanting to take more than 5 kids which I think is past state guidelines (counting your own child as the 6th) and just plain crazy. I would never let someone watch my child and 5+ others.
I think the in-home is the best route but I suggest you do it "right".
