Photog help needed

We have not yet taken the girls to have professional photos taken since money has been short (I have been out of work for 4 months now). Anywho, I told Josh that one thing I really wanted to do with a part of our tax return was to get some photos taken. I dont want to spend a ton of money, but I want some really nice pictures of the girls and some family photos since we only have a few of all 4 of us together. Can you recommend someone or what are your thoughts on studios like Flash or Porttait Innovations or whatever those places are call? Thanks!

Well, although they are not the highest quality photos, we take our daughter to The Picture People.  The location we use is in Oak Park Mall.  i don't know if there are others in the area.  I wanted pro pics, but didn't want to break the bank by doing them, so we have gone there a few times, and it has always been a good experience.  We have done clothing changes with DD, and also did family shots, and then just DD once, and they are fine with that.  Then they compile proofs for you to look at on a huge screen, and you pick what you want then.  They print them, and you're on your way within an hour from the start.  You can almost always get a coupon for a free 10 x 13 print, and usually 15% off all other prints (I get them emailed, but they are probably on their website), and there is no sitting fee.  I recommend setting an appointment so you don't have to wait too long, and usually one of the first appts of the day is best so they aren't behind.  Again, it's not a highbrow, fancy place by any means, but they are affordable, and they've done great with my DD!

We have been to both Portrait Innovations and JC Penney.  We took P every 3 months for his first year and we did JCP 3 times and PI for his 1 year.  We spent A LOT more on the 1 year pics.  They were really good and they take so many that it was hard to pass on any of them.  They have a good $9.99 special to get you started.  JCP on the other hand always has coupons for $3.99 sheets and you can get as many as you want for that price.  I have examples of what we got from both places if you want to see.

It's something like $250 for the session plus the pictures on a disc. That's all I ever want (the pics on a disc) and most photogs charge a ton for one and make you buy prints as well. This seems like a good deal!

We had newborn shots done by Josh Solar Photo.  Love them but they were too expensive to continue.

I had a friend who keeps getting better and better but her prices are still fairly cheap!

We purchased her "First Expressions" package for $125 and you get newborn, 3 months, 6 months and a year.  Plus there is other stuff that comes with it too.

We will be in that boat too very soon! I am going to attempt to do some newborn photos myself and have my brother or gpa (both hobbyists) take family photos for us.

PI is a great place to get some traditional photos for cheap. They are studio photos though so as long as you have that in mind, you won't be let down.

I am thinking I will probably just take them to one of the studios for photos now and over the summer or fall when the weather is nicer have someone take some good family photos then.?

Hey Melissa! Definately check out Flashes Portraits.  My friend uses them for her 3 boys & their pics always turn out SO good.  I can't wait to get them from her when she goes there.  She's a pretty thrifty gal too, so I would imagine them having some good deals there...............

I would highly recommend Josh Solar Photography! Jenny and Josh are wonderful and they take amazing photos. They may be a bit more pricey but it is totally worth it!! They are amazing! We have had them do our wedding, dog, and now we are going to have the baby portraits!
