No babysitter = No V-day

We can't do much for these occasions since we don't have family nearby.  I didn't even bother looking for a gift this year.  I know some people say you can just do something at home like a nice dinner, but I seriously think that's lame and so unromantic when you have two rugrats running around screaming.  LOL  Our 5 year anniversary is in May and that will probably just be another day too.

Am I the only lame one that doesn't even bother anymore?

Re: No babysitter = No V-day

  • Maybe plan something for when the kids are in bed? ?We've done that. ?Order take-out and a great movie and have a candlelit picnic on the living room floor. ?

  • V-day we've always done a gourmet meal at home. I think it's really important to try; not for v-day really, but definitely for anniversaries. can you find a sitter between now and May, or do some sort of swap w/ another mom?

  • we used to go out to dinner but the last few years we just get a card.  Thats it.  I feel a card is not lame especially if you take the time to pick out that perfect card.  But then again thats hard to do when you have little ones.

  • If it makes you feel any better, DH is on duty on V-Day (and Christmas, Thanksgiving, NYE, 4th of July, our birthdays) for 24-hours.  We probably wouldn't have done anything, anyway, but it still stinks that he's at work.   We'll probably go out to dinner another evening, but that's it.

I suggested that to my DH once and he laughed!  He's like an old man needing to eat at 5PM.

I did get a card.  I at least managed that much!  ;-)

  • We might do something.  The last time we had an opportunity and went out, we came home to chaos.  Sydney was hoarse because she had been screaming so much.  That kinda killed the fun.
  • We also have no family nearby. But even if we did, we probably would not go out. We just enjoy vegging out at home with the kids. We don't feel the need to to out on so called 'designated romantic' holidays.
  • We don't celebrate that stuff, either. I finally convinced DH to stop doing the meaningless stuff - cards that he just signs his name to, silly gifts that we don't want/need - and instead we do a fun family thing, or else pick out a gift together.

DH won't even be home on VDay, but a week or so later we're going to buy a family zoo membership, so that's how we're observing VDay. For our last anniversary, we bought a Wii.

  • DH just came home with Nutella and banannas to make me crepes for breakfast on V-Day.  That's better than any "date".  ;-)
  • You know, I don't even want to go out on v-day anymore.  Restaurants cram as many 2-person tables as they can possibly fit into the room, jack up prices and force a prix fixe menu on you so they can get people through the assembly line as fast as possible.  And you end up sitting closer to the person at the next table than to your date.  Nothing romantic about it!  I truly do prefer a homemade gourmet dinner and a bottle of wine... even if DD is asleep down the hall.

But, occasional date nights are important.  Can you get a babysitter recommendation from a friend so you can celebrate your anniversary?
