Salma Hayek breastfeeds African baby...

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/10/salma-hayek-breastfeeds-a_n_165676.html

Apparently she was on a goodwill trip to Sierra Leon and came upon a mother & baby.  The mother's milk had dried up and the baby was hungry so Salma plunked down and bf'd the kid.

I think its an amazing gesture, but I'm not sure I would do the same thing.  Well, maybe I would.  Actually I don't know what I'd do in that situation.

 wwyd?

  • It would be hard to walk away in that setting, yet I don't know what I'd do (is that bad?).  it's an amazing gesture.
  • I think I probably would, for sure.

  • I probably would....but I'd prefer to pump a bottle to feed him/her! ;-)

  • That is an amazing story.

My friend went through a bunch of testing so that she could send over 300 oz of her frozen breastmilk (she was a milk machine!) to Africa.

  • I would..I read an article that mentioned an african woman whose milk had dried up and she was crying because she didn't know how she would feed her baby and the baby was crying because it was hungry ( this was right after I had Juney) and I cried about it for days...I would have to do it.

    I love salma hayek.

there is nothing that upsets me more than the idea of a hungry or abused child...

  • Starving baby and I had milk... I am pretty sure that I'd sit my ass down and feed it. And then worry where its next meal was going to come from.

  • OK, I just watched the video and cried.  Now I think I'd totally do it if I had it.  For any starving baby.
  • I definitely would. I would not be able to walk away from a starving baby.
  • I would for sure.  What's the alternative?  I couldn't ignore a starving baby.

  • I just watched the video and am tearing up at the thought. I would have done the same in a heartbeat.

Side note, my mom and her cousin are milk-siblings. My grandma and her SIL used to BF each other's kids.

Frick.  I can't even dump a few ounces down the drain even though I'm supposed to be doing just that for the next two weeks.  I'm freezing it all in the hopes I'll be able to donate it.  If I can't give it to my baby, I want it to help someone else's.

  • I am tearing up at that too, and I totally would have done it also.

  • Ditto Lari.

Without hesitation would I feed a hungry infant if I'm lactating, regardless of who the child is.
