3rd Trimester

Those who plan to BF

Jumping on real quick to what you're getting in advance bra, nursing tank, nursing shirt-wise.

Should I get a sleeping bra too, or will a tank be okay? I figure I better get this stuff before she's here so I'm not sending DH on mission impossible.

Also, how did you gage the size, I know I'll more than likely expand...

Thanks in advance.

Re: Those who plan to BF

  • I slept in camisoles.  It was much easier to whip my boob out to feed in the middle of the night.

  • I personally did not like the sleep bra's, I preferred just the nursing tanks. I stuck to Glamourmom nursing tanks the first time, and this time I also got the Medela comfort fit bra. I love it. Going to get a few more of those. Gives more shape then the nursing tanks, but yet still is roomy enough to grow and is comfortable enough to wear at night as a sleep bra. I got a size XL and it fits perfectly, I'm normally a 40C. Remember you don't stay "huge" forever... after breast feeding for a while your chest actually shrinks.
  • I have nursing tanks and a sleeping bra and I've been using them both.  I got the Medela sleeping bra and just got a size L and it's been working just fine.  (during pregnancy I was a 38C)
  • I slept in a bra for 7 months while BF DD.  I stayed the same cup size as before I delivered.  You need to get those BF pads and definitely don't forget the cream for your boobs - it's a lifesaver!
  • You really shouldn't get nursing bras before your milk comes in. I've heard this from all the nurses who gave me class including the lactation consultants. You are not going to know what size you will be.

In the meanwhile buy nursing tank tops, those should be ok until you can buy the right size bra.

Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.
  • I had a couple of stretchy sleep bras. I could wear them under T-shirts and PJs and liked that they didn't have the little clips to fuss with during the night. I also had a nursing tank or 2 at first, but I mostly wore those under clothes during the day.

  • My sister used a sleeping bra... I think it helps to hold in pads rather than just a reg. tank. But nursing tanks will do the same trick. I have no idea about sizes. I read to buy 2 sizes bigger than what you are pregnant. don't know if it's ribs or cup size though. Good luck to us!
  • Make sure you have nursing pads.  It really sucks to wake up with your shirt soaking wet the nights DC decides to sleep an extra hour.
  • I got 2 nursing tanks and a box of nursing pads.  I don't plan on buying nursing bras until my milk comes in, since I have no idea what size I'll be.  I'll probably buy more nursing tanks then as well.

  • I got a couple nursing tops and a nightgown, and one bra, 'cause I grew out of the 1st set of new bras I got at 5 months, I will prob wait and get another bra later.

Will have to see how it works

  • I bought a Medela size L sleeping bra from Target and have been wearing it since I leak colostrum like a crazy mo-fo at night. :) It's super duper stretchy and comfy, and I'm sure it will work after baby is born, too. I think it was $20.
