2nd Trimester

Any equestrians out there?

Hey guys, if any of you are equestrians are you still riding?  Just curious.  I am able to ride my trainer's horse (I competed her all last year) about once/week and it is soo much fun for the 20 minutes that I am able to ride....oh I miss it :-(

Re: Any equestrians out there?

  • No, sadly, I have 3 horses out in my backyard and am not allowed to ride them.  I had some difficult times the entire 1st tri, so doc said no.  Even if he allowed it, I don't think DH would let me.  That's ok.  I miss it, but it is so worth it to finally be here where I am!  FWIW I have 3 of the best groomed equines around right now! ;)

  • Well, at least you can take good care of them from the ground!  I have been fortunate enough to not have any problems thus far so I am trying to keep my legs in somewhat shape :-)  I'm still pretty pathetic though.  It is nice to get on a horse though :-)

  • I'm not able to ride right now and I really miss it.  I can't wait to teach the little one how to ride in a couple years!  How old were you all when you learned?  I was 5, but I've taught kids a little younger.

  • I endded up stopping. It was hard but I know that if something were to happen I would never be able to let it go

  • I bought a gorgeous, really well-bred sport pony in October with plans to start her, train her, hopefully do some shows in the spring and then sell her in the summer...  I found out I was pregnant in November!

I am so unsure of whats going to happen, because I can't afford to just have her for a pet- she was supposed to be an investment.  I don't have the money to send her away to a trainer, since the plan was to do it myself...So I unfortunately just have to hope someone will buy her!  Of course the market crashed, so that's not looking too good either :(

The first three months I was too sick to even go visit her (she's 20 min away) but now I go groom her and lunge her.  She's so pretty and fancy, I wish I could keep her to ride after the baby and then have her for my kids - nothing would make me happier, but its just not where DH and I are in our life right now to have a horse for keeps.

I started riding when I was 5 and never looked back.  My last several jobs were working student positions at dressage/eventing barns on the East Coast.  I hope after baby is born I have the resources and support from DH to get back into it for fun.

    I MISS RIDING!!!!!!

  • Sadly I was told no as soon as I found out. Better safe than sorry, doesn't stop me from grooming the farms tamer horses and going to horse show Smile
  • Once I knew that I was pregnant I didn't ride anymore...my two horses can be a handful especially out on the trail so I didn't want to risk falling and getting stepped on.  I know people who ride all 9 months (usually against doctors advice).  I am glad I stopped riding early on in my pregnancy because I ended up finding out I have a weakened short cervix and have been having preterm labor issues since about 18 weeks.  If I kept riding I may have shorterned my cervix so much I could of lost the baby (from the pressure of riding).  I miss my babies!  They've had a good vacation though.

  • I've also stopped.  Just not worth the risk but I do miss them.

  • I continued to ride into my 2nd trimester, but when my 3 yr old that's just learning to jump decided to buck me off (I should have had quit riding him as soon as I found out I was pg, but that's the beauty of hind sight), I decided it was time to call it quits! Eek, luckily baby was/is OK!!! Also, not to make you more paranoid, but my good friend lost her baby at 17 wks because her horse tripped while just trotting around and went all the way down. After these two accidents, I'd recommend just not riding. 9 months isn't that long!
  • My husband and I have three horses that are enjoying very much a nice long vacation.... :)
