Dr Sears sleep book

I saw somenone recommend Dr Sear's sleep book.  Can you highlight his main points and his philosophy behind getting your LO to sleep?

Re: Dr Sears sleep book

  • I dont have the sleep book, but his philosophy tends to be co-sleeping.

  • I recommended it.

It's NOT all about cosleeping. Yes, Dr. Sears is pro-cosleeping.

However, the book does not preach about how great co-sleeping is (though there is one chapter dedicated to co-sleeping and the benefits of co-sleeping; you can skip this if you'd like, but I found it to be very informative).

It gives you very practical solutions to find how your baby sleeps best. It gives very realistic scenarios for you to mull over and ways of working with each scenario in terms of how your baby is sleeping now and how to get your baby to sleep better.

It also helps you assess your child's personality and figure out which sleep situation is best for your child.

  • Brooke929, did it get your LO to learn to sleep on their own?  Just curious, if so at what age?

Well, here's the whole premise about the Sears sleep book.

They say that you have to *teach* a child to fall asleep on his or her own, and that it's something that takes practice and patience. They're very anti-CIO, because studies have shown that babies who are left to CIO enter into a very anxious state of sleep and don't get quality sleep because they do not learn that sleep is a pleasant state in which to enter.

Through this book, we learned that Will is a high needs child. He *needs* touch, he *needs* attention, comfort, etc. So we're working through those issues to get him to sleep better.

  • Is it different than the chapter on sleep in his big book?
