How much did they weigh at birth and how much have they gained? My pedi is concerned he's not gaining enough. My son weighed 5lbs 13oz at birth and when I brought him home he weighed 5lbs 3oz. At his 2mo check up he weighed 8lbs 2oz, so the concern is that he isn't getting enough from the breastmilk. Anyone eperience this or something close to it. Should I start to suppliment formula?
Re: How much does your 2mo. old weigh
DS was 8lbs 9oz when he was born. When we left the hospital 5 days later, he weighed 7lbs 15oz. At his 1 month appt, he was 10lbs 5oz, and at his 2 month appt, he was 12 lbs 14oz.
He was 21 inches long when he was born and was 24 inches at 2 months.
Can you pump for a day or two and see how much he eats in a day? Does he fall asleep while eating a lot? You may need to wake him up if he falls asleep to make sure he gets enough. Are you dieting? Sometimes if the mom doesn't eat enough, I hear that it affects the milk so baby can't gain weight. Maybe add a bit more fat to your own diet and see if that helps too.
We do supplement because my baby was such a tanker from birth that I never could make enough for him. We give him 1 bottle of formula a day and it works out great and honestly gives me a break.
dd was 5lbs 12oz at birth, and at her 2 month she was 9lbs 13oz. But, she is also on formula (I was not producing enough breastmilk, so we had to switch). I would maybe pump to see around what you are producing, and maybe talk with his pedi to see if he thinks supplementing is the thing to do for him.
*when ds was little, he was only 4.14 at birth, and at his 2 month appt. he was only around 7.5lbs. his pedi was concerned too. Turns out i was producing very little milk, and he would nurse FOREVER....we ended up having to supplement to get his weight up.
