NMR: Your favorite thing to cook?

I want to make something great for dh on Valentine's day...he deserves it.  I'm trying to figure out something good, but am getting stumped.  He eats pretty much anything (though isn't a huge fan of fish).  I'd love to hear your favorite recipes!  Thanks!

  • we love thai food...so one valentines day i bought a thai quick and easy cookbook and we made crabmeat pancake apps, with shrimp pad thai and chicken green curry. ?it was so much fun! ?go for a "style" of food and then plan your meal around it. ?foodtv.com has some great ideas.
  • I love breakfast for dinner. My suggestion would be Paula Dean's french toast casserole (you assemble it early and then just pop it in the oven when you are ready) with some fresh strawberries and mimosas and spend the night in bed together :)

Marinade: soy sauce (low sodium), dry cooking sherry, sugar, chopped garlic, & ground ginger.  Poke the steak all over with a fork and then marinate at room temperature for an hour or overnight in the fridge.

Garlic mashed potatoes:  make your usual mashed potatoes and then mix with 1/2 tub of Garlic and Herb Pub Cheese by Rondele.

For the grilled veggies I usually do: zucchini, vidalia onion, red & yellow peppers, sliced mushrooms.  Season up with either Greek Seasoning or S&P and then mix in Wishbone zesty Italian dressing.  Throw on the grill in a grill pan or a foil pouch.

And then I'd grill the steak too.  With Flank steak you have to cut it in thin slices along the grain on an angle. mmmm it's so yummy!

Oh and then I'd do strawberry shortcake for dessert.

  • DH really enjoys it when I make parmesean crusted pork chops or baked ziti.
  • sorry about the multiple posts.  The bump went crazy on me.
  • I know you are wanting to do a diner, but I was thinking of a breakfast in bed. DH loves a big breakfast so I was going to make buiscuts and gravey, eggs, and bacon for him and bring it in bed with a card or note.

  • Baked ziti is an easy one, and one of DH's favorites, throw in some caesar salad and garlic bread and yum!

For a fancier option, DH loves my roast tenderloin.  It's so easy - just coat the tenderloin with grey poupon mustard then roll it in seasoned italian breadcrumbs and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes (depending on the size of your tenderloin).  The meat is so tender.  Throw in baked potatoes with it, add some sour cream and chives, steam some asparagus and you've got a fabulous dinner!
