Startle Reflex Or Something More? Kind Of Freaked Out

I have noticed a few episodes where DS will be lying on his back and all of the sudden, his eyes will get really wide (like he is startled) and he will throw his hands and legs straight out for a few seconds. ?Sometimes he will cry afterward. ?But, from what I can tell, there really isn't anything that could have startled him! ?Maybe a breeze I didn't feel? ?A noise that didn't phase me? ?It doesn't happen all the time, but I have noticed at least 5-10 of these "episodes" in the past several weeks. ?I keep thinking it is just the Moro reflex, but it just seems so out of nowhere and he seems SO startled that he freezes up. ?Anyone?

Just startle reflex.  Don't worry about it.  If its waking him, try swaddling.

He definitely startles when he is sleeping, but that just seems so much less severe than these episodes. ?He just freezes for literally about 3 secons, then will fuss.?

My oldest did this so much that it freaked me out. I was afraid it would never go away or there was something wrong with him.  It's the startle reflex and somethimes you can't tell what startles them.. Swaddling does help.

Glad you asked this. My DS does this too... not too many times so I haven't really thought much about it, but he's definitly got some quirkyness thats made me feel bad for him and he sometimes seems to jump right out of his skin!
