Congested baby--help??

So my DD has been congested for the past couple of days.  I've been suctioning her nose (which she absolutely hates, of course) but I'm wondering

  1. at what point (days wise) should I be concerned?
  2. is there anything else, besides torturing her with the booger sucker, that I can do? Vicks?

Other than the congestion, she seems okay. Not fussy or anything.

TIA!

Re: Congested baby--help??

  • do you use saline drops?  it works really well for my son.

  • My DD has been congested, too.  We run a humidifier in her room at night and that seems to help.  Along with the booger sucker.

  • I agree with both pp.

Saline drops - then the sucky thing. Also, a cool mist humidifier.

    Good luck!!!?

  • I totally second the saline drops - we haven't used an aspirator yet. One drop in each nostril and she is as good as new in a few minutes. Also it really helps to have a vaporizer - we now keep ours on 24/7 and haven't had any more congestion issues.
  • In addition to pp, steamy bathroom is helpful (I like to saline, steamy bathroom, then booger sucker).    Also, a warm washcloth wipe of the nose helps loosen things up.  good luck!  Our LO is just getting over a NASTY cold / possibly RSV (our pedi doesn't test).
