PP bleeding question

Hi ladies- I was going to buy some pads to have in the house for after I deliver.  I never wore pads in my life (always been a tampon girl).  How heavy is the pp bleeding?  I am wondering if I need super duper heavy overnight pads, or if just regular pads will do.  What kind did you need?  TIA!

Re: PP bleeding question

  • I used the super heavy ones the hopital had for the first 2 or 3 days then used what I had. I bought always regulars. After the first few days it lightens up to seem like a regular period.

  • HEAVY! Regular pads will not work in the beginning. It lasts really long so you should buy both because you don't want to wear the big overnight ones the whole time.
  • The hospital will probably send you home with some. I used super because I bled a lot for the first few days.

  • I would get a box of big overnight pads, and a box of regulars. I used the heavy duty ones for about 10 days, and I changed it ALL the time. Make sure you have pantiliners on hand too ... and tucks pads, and extra wipes for you, and witch hazel, and be sure to ask for Epifoam and Dermaplast before you leave the hospital.
  • For the first couple of days I had a lot of bleeding and would change my pad everytime I went to the bathroom.  (I had a 2 degree tear and wanted to make sure I kept it clean.)  After about a week and a half,  I was able to just wear liners.

     Good Luck!

  • My pp bleeding was pretty heavy, and it lasted a few weeks. I needed the super overnight pads for the first 2 weeks, then I switched to regular.

  • The first day I used the hospitals diaper. The rest of the time I just used a regular pad with a heavy rating. My fav is Always pads.
  • I wished I hadnt wasted my money. The hospital sent me home with a bunch and now I have all these pads and nothing to do with them. Keep panty liners on hand though!

  • I think it's the kind of thing you'd rather have and not need than need and not have. I'd get heavy at the very least, then downgrade if you need to. I used heavy for a few weeks.
  • Thank you everyone!  I was not sure what to expect, but it looks like I should get some heavy and regular to start.
