any bright ideas to get her to sleep longer? She wakes up happy, but is tired about in 45min-an hour. I try to hold her off as long as possibly but that is usually only an hour or an hour and 15 min. I'm so jealous of those of you that are complaining about your baby sleeping more than 2 hours.
Re: DD only naps for 20 min
My DS used to not nap well, and wouldn't nap at all in the crib. Now he does well if there is a lot of ambient noise (TV or radio.), and he is swaddled. I walk, rock, or nurse him to sleep and don't put him down in the crib until he is asleep. He tends to take 2 longer naps and 2 shorter naps a day now.
Before I was back at work, a lot of times I would just let him sleep on me, and he would sleep more often, but not for longer than 45 minutes.
I have the exact same issue...
We have been trying to follow the Baby Whisperer to work on this. She has ways to extend naps. So far, all we have achieved is frustration and discouragement, but they say it will take persistance and commitment to get through it, and it's not supposed to be easy (even though it's part of the EASY routine
)
I have The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems, but I'd encourage you to look the thebabywhisperer.com and go on their message boards for ideas and information.
This has been a constant struggle for us

A little late on this, but we have the same issue with DS...
If his nap is shorter than 45 minutes it means that he went down too tired (he doesn't show any sleep cues so I have to time it!), and is usually ready for another nap right away. ?Even though you would think to keep a baby up a bit to get them more tired, it works better to catch them before they get to that point...it's much harder to get a long nap when they are overtired! ?
I would try to put her down sooner than usual and see if you get a longer nap the next time - I would try it the first nap of the day to make sure she is still well rested from the night before (if she had a good night)...trying at the end of the day usually means chronic overtiredness from the whole day that has added up...
We also keep DS's room super dark with blackout blinds and have the BCM and a fan going for extra white noise...the kid needs as little stimulation as possible otherwise he will not go back to sleep...
HTH!?
