Babies: 0 - 3 Months

warm vs. cool humidifers

DS (5mos) has had a cough for two days now, waiting it out to see how he does tonight before calling pedi (maybe croup).

Should i consider a humidifer? or vaporizer?

What is the difference between the cool & warm?

Are the Vicks ones okay or a no-no with infants?

TIA

  • I think the cool mist humidifiers are what the peds will recommend now but I'm not sure why! when I was little i remember always using the warm mist vaporizer......
  • Hello.how are you doing today? in my view my babygirl of 4months had an cold last 2 weeks ago and we recently went to target to get the cool mist humidifier by vicks and it makes wonder now that shes getting over her cold but now mommy is sick and daddy too we have it going all day and nite and it really works and yes it helps out infants thats what my pedi told me thats why we went out to get one and price them at target they are various one to choose from but the bigger the better humidifer the better and all of them are good cool or warm. i hope this helped you out. good luck. try not to buy one at babies r us they are hella expensive.
  • Cool mist humidifiers are normally recommended for young kids b/c they're safer.  Check the package if you're looking into the Vicks ones.  I would personally just go w/ a run of the mill cool mist humidifier, though.  You'll probably find yourself using it a lot!  Also, if it's croup, keeping your little guy in a steamy bathroom, then bundling him up and taking him out into the cool night air may help relieve the cough.  Hope he feels better soon!

    Ditto.

Warm breed bacteria and mold faster.

Vaporizers of any kind or inhalants of any kind are not recommended for kids under the age of 3.

  • We had DS at urgent care last night and they said use a cool one. So thats what we bought.
  • hello we have the cool must humidifier by vicks and we paid 59.99 at target and i believe that both of them work well for babys and my pedi told me to get one last time she was sick 2 weeks ago and now mommy is sick but yeah either of them are fine.everyone who posted on here have the same experience so good luck on choosing one in my view the bigger the better and dont shop at babies r us are expensive. fyi.
