I don't really have a lot of big things on my registry, mostly because my mother went crazy in a babies r us one day. My sister said I need to register for some more expensive items since family members will want to buy me bigger things, rather than a bunch of smaller things.
Did any of you register for bigger items that you didn't need immediately but you wish you'd registered for now? My sister suggested a convertible car seat, and I'm just not sure how good of an idea it is.
Also wondering about the babies r us return policy. Can unopened breast pumps/supplies be returned? If so, how long do you have to return them, and what about general returns off the registry. How long do you have to return those?
Re: Registry questions
Well I registered for a highchair and I'm glad I did. We just started using that last weekend- getting her used to sitting in it and she likes to sit in it while we eat dinner. And yes I wished I registered for a convertible car seat as I will be buying one in the next few months.
BRU return policy now sucks!!! You only have 90 days no matter what. I just tried to return a bunch of stuff I never used and they were like F you cause it had been more than 90 days. They won't even give you store credit. I mean especially the Medela stuff- I mean where else would I have bought that? And it's not like they aren't still selling it. So annoyo. I had newborn flow nipples that never got opened and I still had my gift receipt from my shower (in august) and they gave us a hard time about simply exchanging them for a faster flow. I bitched until they let us though....
Don't add big things just for family. Register for what you want and need, and they'll deal. We had our swing, high chair, stroller, and infant seat on there and NOBODY went in on the "big" things at all, so we ended up buying them ourselves anyway. No big deal.
If you register for something like a bigger carseat or high chair--things you won't need for MONTHS after baby-- make sure all the pieces are there and functional as soon as you get it. Otherwise, the receipt will expire before you find out. Car seats have expirations on them, too, so I'd wait as long as possible before buying one.

Register for bigger things, but only things you actually want. Def. register for the conv. carseats, they are expensive, and you might get lucky and have someone buy them! Some babies are in their infant seats for almost a year, we will be lucky to make it til he can sit up.
Also, register for diapers and formula (if using), these things add up and their nice to receive.
Not sure what your mom bought for you, but here are the big things we use daily:
vibrating chair (or bouncy chair), swing, pack n play, changing table, crib, dresser, playmat, soon to use the high chair - I'd put any of those on there that you still need!
This are things we didn't need right away but come about 4-5 months I was glad I had:
- convertible car seat (we switched DD at 8 months)
- highchair (we have one that attaches to a regular chair - space saver)
- exersaucer or jumperoo
- Pack N Play (some people don't need them, but we were traveling when DD was 2 months and we needed it and have used it multi times for travel)
