Success after IF

What do I need on my changing table?

Obviously, I know diapers and wipes, but what else do I need at my fingertips in the nursery.

Also, I'm going to have a basket in our room of changing supplies to change him in the middle of the night.  Do I need the same things as the changing table or can that be a scaled down basket of supplies?

TIA!

Re: What do I need on my changing table?

  • This is what I have:

    Diapers

    Wipes

    Thermometer

KY Jelly for taking the babies temperature rectally

    Tylenol

    Mylecon

    Nail File

    Hair brush

    Johnsons Moisturizer

    Butt paste or rash cream

    A&D ointment

  • I have a little container on it that has lotions, vaseline, diaper cream, & little washcloths, that is pretty much it! the changing table is a dresser top, and in one of the small top drawers i have nail clippers, nose sucker thing, paci's, baby brush, etc.
  • oh yes, i also have the thermometer in the drawer and tylenol on the dresser in the container with the other stuff
  • Oh and if you are having a boy Vaseline if you plan on having him circumcised.

I keep everything in a basket.

  • Diaper cream

q-tips or pre-moistened alcohol swabs or what ever you plan to use for umbilical cord care and circumcision care (if you plan to circumcise)

Extra burp cloth or diaper or wash cloth to cover penis to avoid getting sprayed (until he learns not to pee with diaper off - that takes a couple of weeks)

Lanolin for Mommy (if you plan to nurse)

A bag of snacks for Mommy (nuts were my favorite).  Gotta keep your strength up!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • to be honest, just diapers (and covers if CDing), wipes and a toy. all other accoutrements (that you don't use daily) can be stored elsewhere. from what I've learned, keep it simple. less is more.

  • Diaper Rash Cream

    Lotions for after bath

    powder

    thermometer

    hairbrush

    nasal bulb aspirator

    saline drops for his nose

    Tylenol

    Vaseline/Neosporin for his circ care

*toys to occupy him when I change his diaper or clothes*

now that he's more active he HATES lying on the changing table to be changed or dressed so I have to keep him distracted!

    Quest 2:  for your room

    diapers

    wipes

    diaper rash cream

    ointment for circ

  • Diaper cream, cornstarch (if you use it), extra outfit(s) for those blowouts so you don't have to leave baby to change his outfit, burp cloth (i have these everywhere) maybe a wash cloth and some baby lotion.

At night, you need a quick change.  Changing diapers wakes them up so all you would need is a diapers wipes and cornstarch (dr told me to use cornstarch at night).

  • On the top, I have wipes and a little basket with diapers, lotion, and diaper ointment.  Also alcohol wipes for when the umbilical stump is healing.

If you have a drawer or shelf, it is great to have the thermometer, vaseline, nasal aspirator, nail clippers, tylenol, etc.  It is also a great idea to have everything you would need in case of a blowout -- towel or blanket to wrap in to take him a bath if necessary and a spare sleeper to put him in.  Ava once had a HUGE blowout and I couldn't pick her up  (to take her to the bath)without getting myself covered in poop -- thank goodness I had a spare towel there.

I would say for the basket for your room, you just need diapers, wipes, and a spare sleeper in case of spit-up/blowout.

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!
