We are just starting to switch to formula from exclusive breastmilk, so I'm clueless about formula. When you shake the bottle do you see little clumps of powder left that didn't mix? Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I tried to make too much at once? But I imagine that can't be good for him to get little powder bubbles that never mixed, right?
Re: Clumps left in bottle after shaking to make formula?
Yes, this is a really common problem. One way to deal with it is to get a formula pitcher, like the Dr. Brown's. You'll get far fewer clumps that way.
Or, if your pitcher breaks, you could do what we do and just shake shake shake it so that there are only a few clumps and hope for the best, lol.
Make sure you follow the directions on the can/package etc. Usually its one level scoop to 2 oz of water.
Shake well, there shouldn't be any clumps left when you're done shaking. Might just need to shake a little more
No, I shake them enough that all lumps get dissolved. We keep all the bottles in the fridge for the day; letting them sit for a while before using also helps get rid of lumps and bubbles.

I had a shaker from tupperware that I use (it has this little wisk-like thing attached to the inside) and that seems to get the job done.
When I shake in the bottle, I find that warmer water does a better job of breaking down the clumps than room temp or cooler.
So, what I do is don't shake it causes to many bubbles we use circular motions. This tends to keep it bubble and clump free. Also, must mix as soon as you put powder in water can't let it sit while you do something else.
