When to stop night feed?

DD is only waking once in the night now and occasionally will STTN.  I'm wondering when I should cut out her night feed all together.  I always give her a few minutes to see if she will go back to sleep on her own, and if she doesn't I give her a bottle and then put her back to sleep.  She usually goes to bed at 8PM and wakes for a bottle around 3 or 4 AM and then goes back to sleep until 7 or 8AM.  Will she drop this on her own or do I need to wean her from it? TIA

Re: When to stop night feed?

  • I weaned mine from it, b/c I knew he was getting fed enough during the day - over 40oz, actually; he's a little piggy! ?I stick the paci in and he almost always falls back asleep within a few minutes.

  • I think you're doing fine. You could try giving her a paci to see if that's all she needs and then feed her if that doesn't do it.

With my DS, he actually slowly stretched out his nighttime feeds all on his own, we didn't have to drop any feeds ourselves. At her age I'd probably lean more towards seeing if she'll do it herself, but every baby is different and you know her best :)

  • How funny you ask because my DS has been on that exact schedule since he was about 5 weeks old and I wondered the same thing. He is a litte piggy and is definitely getting 35 or so oz a day.
