Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Napping at 2, almost 3 months

What does your nap schedule look like? We follow EASY loosely, with my DD napping at about 9am, 12pm and 3pm. She sometimes takes a catnap after dinner but before bed. She can't make it being up past 1hr 30 min, although in the morning, she can barely make it 1 hr 15 min before a nap. Lately she has been waking at the 45 min mark, which from what I hear, is just about the length of one baby sleep cycle. I would like her to sleep longer, even if it means less naps. She does STTN.

I am wondering if at this point 3-4 naps a day is typical. I know at some point, she'll probably transition to a morning and a afternoon nap. What are your DCs doing?

  •  At 3 months DS started taking 3 naps per day. One in the morning around 9/10 AM. Then in the early afternoon and then one later in the evening. Basically, he was awake for 2 hours and then he needed a nap (he is still like that!).

  • Honestly DD's naps are very unpredictable.  One day she may nap for 2 hours at a time and the next she may only take cat naps all day long.  For us it works best just to follow DD's cues, we don't force naps upon her she naps when she's ready.

  • Our schedule sounds very much like yours.  We're loosely following the 3 hour easy.  She's up for about 1.5 hours before she's ready for a nap.  She takes 3 naps, sometimes 4 around dinnertime and then we start her bedtime routine around 7:15.  Down for the night at 8 and she sttn.

The last couple of weeks her naps have shortened to just 30-45 mins. which is not enough at all, she wakes up so cranky and fussy.  I read the no-cry nap solution and it had a few good tips for short nappers.  This weekend I've started going in just before she wakes up so that I can catch her as she's coming out of the sleep cycle.  As she's coming out of it, but before she's totally awake, I pop the paci in her mouth and start shhh-ing.  It's worked so far!  She falls back asleep and sleeps for about another hour.
