What's after Clomid?

I did three rounds of Clomid and did an u/s after each.  I didn't ovulate either of the times... :(  I just did a HSG test, which came back good.  My hubby is getting a s/a this week and then we see a specailist the first part of March.  My question is this... Can someone who has been in this situation shed some light on what happens next??  Do they give you shots?  DIfferent meds?

Thanks!

Re: What's after Clomid?

  • Usually if the Clomid isn't working, they'll do injectibles. Sometimes they'll give the Femara a shot first, but I'd start to mentally prepare yourself for the shots. The good news is, they really aren't that bad.

  • how much clomid did you take each cycle?  did they increase your dosage each time?

I never responded to clomid either.  I went right to IVF, but I had insurance at that time to cover it.

Next steps could be to try IUI with one of the following:

     1) higher dosage of clomid (I've heard often that you can cycle up to 6 times with clomid and if you don't get pg, then its time to move onto something else),

    2) femara (another pill),

    3) femara + gonal-f (injectible)

    4) just gonal-f.

It would depend upon a lot of factors, your age, your diagnosis, your insurance coverage, your comfort level with shots, your comfort level with more advanced procedures, etc.

  • They moved me to Femara but it was more because I couldn't handle the Clomid after 2 cycles...  It made me crazy!  But the good news is that I got a BFP after my first round of Femara.
  • I didn't ovulate on my own, so my RE started me on Femara plus Ovidrel. ?My understanding is that Femara stimulates the follicles and Ovidrel actually forces the ovulation to ccur. ?Ovidrel is a shot that you give yourself, but it is a small needle and doesn't hurt. ?Good luck!?
