Not necessarily...but all the dropsides we checked out felt a little rickety. We went with a stationary rail crib: I figured it was one less thing to worry about...but we're both taller, so a dropside wasn't high on my list.?

yea. orig i wasnt keen on a dropside but i am offered a Pali crib (free) and it has a dropside..just not sure.
While shopping for cribs, I asked the sales person. I am super short and was worried about reaching in when mattress was all the was down.
They are not as sturdy, anything with a moving mechanism can loosen over time. She also told us that drop side convertible cribs only have a head board when they are converted into a bed, static side cribs have both head and foot boards.
We went with a drop gate crib, I can reach in and it is very sturdy, It will also look like a regular bed when converted, The gate has piano hinges, no chance of pinching fingers!
I did not verify the info above, who knows if it was a sales ploy or not.....but the brand we picked got an "A" in the baby bargains book!
All cribs have to pass very strict safety guidelines before being available for purchase. For me, I'm only 5' tall and I've had back surgery, so there is no physical way I would be able to get a small child in and out of a crib without a dropside/folding rail.
